This exhibit is neatly contained within a greenhouse, the interior a riot of colourful plants and flowers from the Mojave, visible through the exterior glass. A simple sign above the door reads Dr. Theodore Konstantyn Fitzpatrick, Sc.D., and below it smaller text marks this door as the entrance. As soon as you enter, you're greeted with a sign asking politely that you do not touch the plants, and not to consume anything from the plants within. After that, you can pass through the plastic sheeting blocking the main body of the greenhouse.

It's hot in here, and there's plants growing from various pots and beds. There's creosotebush, labelled Larrea tridentata, all-scale (Atriplex polycarpa), brittlebush (Encelia farinosa), desert holly (Atriplex hymenelytra), white burrobush (Hymenoclea salsola), and Joshua tree (Yucca brevifolia). But soon these give way to cacti, almost seeming to form a maze that leads you ever deeper into the oppressive heat. Should you follow the maze through, it's short and easily completed, as if it's more intended to keep you from seeing the next part too soon.

As soon as you're through, however: what a sight. The ground is carpeted in a superbloom, thousands of yellow and purple flowers covering the round. It's beautiful, and there's a faint, floral scent that hangs heavy in the hot air. You'd almost be forgiven for not noticing the suspended pieces of twisted shrapnel that make up the bomb that killed Fitz.

Each piece is suspended in such a way that the bomb is constructed in its original form, like a mobile hanging in the air. Across the flower field, underneath it, is the exit, with newspaper clippings in frames lining the way out. You have to pass underneath to leave. When you do, you'll notice a ticking sound still comes from the bomb itself.

The newspaper clippings are the final part of the exhibit. They're al from tabloids of the time. DISGRACED ACADEMIC DEAD IN DESERT. SUICIDE OF OUTTED FITZPATRICK SON. FITZPATRICKS DISAVOW DRAFT DODGERS. Every one of them's untrue, but you'd only know that if you knew Fitz himself. Most notably on each tabloid's heading is a simple logo. It marks each as coming from Fitzpatrick Publishing Incorporated.

Merchandise in the gift shop for Fitz includes bags of Forget-Me-Not seeds and strawberry seeds, junior gardening sets and simple watercolour sets.

About

Fitz was once an ordinary man. A doctor of botany, known for his studies into plants, Fitz was killed in a blast from an experimental time bomb, and scattered over the last 35,000 years of earth history. It takes him a long time, but eventually Fitz regathers himself, and passes on.

VISUAL Fitz dresses smartly, in a shirt and usually a sweater vest. He more often than not wears a tie or a bowtie.
AURAL Fitz is mute. He uses ASL circa 1940 to communicate. At most you might hear him breath in sharply.
OLFACTORY STRONG eucalyptus.
DEMEANOUR Utterly charming. A nice man, but with none of the bad connotations of that term - he's a genuinely kind individual who looks after others. His vibes are immaculate.

Root Legs Fitz's legs have been overrun with roots replacing them, formed into legs. These are stiff, though in a pinch he can move the vines into different shapes as needed. The bark is purple, and marked with splashes of colour much like the Eucalyptus deglupta, a plant from his homeworld.
Arms and Torso Plants Fitz's back, arms and upper face are covered in the same purple bark of his legs, running from his hairline to his lips on his face, and from his elbows down on his arms. His back is covered in the same bark, though it is thinner, more flexible, and papery to the touch.
Fire Weakness Fire is incredibly dangerous to Fitz as a nymph and poses a threat of death if not immediately smothered, were he to catch fire.
Connection with Nature Fitz can easily find his way around a forest, because every tree looks unique to him. His touch can nurse dying plants back to health and make saplings grow faster. By concentrating on his surroundings, Fitz can tell if anyone is nearby.
Plant Control Fitz can take control of nearby plants.
Mild Psychological Changes Like the nymphs of legend Fitz is flirtier.

Lavender skin Fitz's skin has taken on the same colouration as his bark, a soft lavender with bright flashes of blue, white, pink, purple, green, and red. His freckles can still be seen as darker marks of the same colour as the skin they sit on.
Disgust at the Destruction of Plants The harm or destruction of plants causes a visceral reaction in Fitz, who finds it disgusting.
Plant Hair and Flowers Fitz's hair is now a soft, dark green with a soft, fluffy texture reminiscent of catkin fleece.
Claws and Teeth with Venom Fitz's fingertips have hardened into tought claws, and his teeth have sharpened to pointed fangs. His bite is venomous, and the bite canput humans into a deep sleep.
Leaf Ears Fitz's ears are completely internal, visible only as a small opening covered over with waxy, red and green streaked leaves, like a Stromanthe sanguinea.
Psychological Change Connected to his disgust for plant destruction, Fitz is now an obligate carnivore, consuming only meat and fish.

Hidden Vines/Tendrils Fitz's has a number of hidden vines and tendrils in his arms and amongst the roots of his legs, growing from his back. These are strong and prehensile enough to easily grasp and hold humans.
Hunger Fitz now experiences hunger for human flesh.
Fog Form Fitz has a fog form that he takes the shape if at night whilst out in the fog.

World Information:
Fitz is drawn from an alternate history, a world similar to ours where time travel was a real and tangible concept. In the early 20th century, various factions would seek to develop true time travel as a weapon to be used against their enemies, only for a series of failures to cause research to grind to a halt, out of fear of what these tests were doing to the world. These tests and the research were secret, their existence covered up out of fear of causing a panic or more people to research them and doom the course of history.

Character Information:

In 1910, the Fitzpatrick publishing empire welcomed a new member of the family. Theodore Konstantyn Fitzpatrick was the youngest of four sons born to the tabloid magnate, quieter and shyer than his rambunctious older brothers who were prone to pranks and tomfoolery. Their games were innocent, playful things, like hiding a tutor’s books or blacking the edges of the binoculars with boot polish, all things that at worst might end with one of them scolded or sent to bed without supper.

When Fitz was eight, and his brothers all in their early teens, his eldest sibling would hatch a plan with the middle boys for a fantastic joke involving a tree branch while the boys were all out riding ponies along a trail near the family estate. Riding ahead of Fitz while he was picking flowers for their mother, they pulled back a low branch and laid in wait for him to pass. When the branch is inevitably released as Fitz gets close, the boys get their wish and he is indeed knocked from the pony’s back. When he doesn’t get up, they realise something is very wrong.

The branch had whipped across Fitz’s throat, badly damaging his windpipe and making it nearly impossible for him to draw breath. The brothers ride for help, and Fitz is rushed to a hospital nearby. In time, he’d recover from the near fatal injury, though it would leave him with permanent paralysis of his vocal cords, preventing him from ever speaking again.

In his teenage years, Fitz would come to find a love for music, and the sciences, with a particular fondness for botany. He never bore a grudge for his brothers’ actions - they were kids and made a mistake and couldn’t have known - though he did feel the bite of loneliness when he found it harder to make friends as a result of his muteness. When he turned 18, an opportunity for him to leave the country and study Botany at the University of London availed itself to him, and his father, eager to see the boy blossom as his older brothers had, sent him off to study.

Fitz would remain there at the invitation of his professors, having shown a real brilliance that endeared him to more senior researchers. He would attain a doctorate before returning to the family home in California, now owned by his eldest brother, the current magnate of the Fitzpatrick publishing empire. Staying in a disused gardener's cottage on the house’s grounds, the young doctor would go on to publish celebrated research in several botanical journals.

In 1941, with the United States entering into War, the family would all make a concerted start on the war effort on the home front. His eldest brother would turn his attention to the machines of propaganda, campaigning for the US to not remain neutral in the face of tyranny. His other brothers signed up for military duty, one as a doctor on the front lines and the other as a soldier. Not the sort of man prepared to stand by and do nothing, Fitz attempted to sign up, but during his medical was told that due to his physical condition and muteness, he was unfit for duty.

Rumours spread like wildfire in the upper echelons, given there are many with little better to do, even in wartime. While those close to the family and to Fitz knew that Fitz’s condition meant the army would not accept him, there were plenty that would point to the fact that he was in his thirties, as of yet unmarried and that he was not typically found to be in the company of women as a sign he’d been denied the right to serve due to homosexuality. While it was true that Fitz was gay, he had never taken a lover, nor done anything that would bring attention to him or his family in that way, too worried about the possible repercussions.

That would not deter those who would lie to make themselves a quick fortune. Someone Fitz had attended university with would come forward, contacting his older brother and claiming to have been the lover of Theo Fitzpatrick in their student years. He blackmailed the older Fitzpatrick, conning him out of several thousand dollars all on something that wasn’t true, and despite Fitz’s protests about it being a bald-faced lie, the scion of the family would state his disappointment in his brother and his ‘lifestyle’.

Fitz would inevitably decide to leave the family home, moving out to the Mojave desert to conduct a new study. He was close enough to civilization to live comfortably, but far enough that people would leave him well enough alone as the war heated up. He spent most of his time away from even the news radio, and would miss the news that one of his brothers was killed in action.

Unknown to him, the area Fitz was working in had been chosen as the site of a unique and secretive weapons test. The time bomb was the result of months of research that bordered on the truly esoteric, and if it worked it would turn the tide of the war, locking enemy forces in place and preventing invasions or attacks from ever happening. Fitz would never know that this was the cause of everything that came after: the closest thing to awareness he would have was the blinding flash as it was dropped, and then the stench of burning flesh as he was scattered through time.

Thrown 35,000 years into the past, Fitz would become the unwilling witness to the rise of humanity, from mankind’s first steps to the rise of the mightiest empires. During this, he would find parts of himself scattered through time, ultimately unable to do anything more than watch, unseen and unable to interact with the world around him in a meaningful way.
The loneliness would drive him to despair, Fitz plagued by grief for what he’d left behind, and by trying to figure out what had happened to him.

The days would melt into months, and the months into years and then centuries. Fitz existed as a ghost among the living, and as he gathered more of the scattered fragments of himself, he became able to interact with the environment in stronger and more obvious ways. He’d go from being the unexplained break in the rain to being able to lift and manipulate objects. He’d take what he could do lightly, out of fear of changing the future by altering things in the smallest of ways. These 'powers' were not anything of note: they were merely a side effect of Fitz being displaced in time. What to him would look like simply picking an object up would look like an object floating to anyone looking on.

Time heals all wounds, and over the millennia, he would come to terms with his loneliness and misery, accepting his ultimate fate. It was bittersweet when his feelings of being a ghost in a world that no longer understood him came to a head as he started reaching more recent times, with his reconnection to the fragments of himself causing sightings that some would even term as ghost sightings.

With the advent of photography, Fitz was a shadowed figure that would appear in the background of various scenes, even pictures that he would recognise from a teenage flirtation with books on the occult, much to his chagrin.

Fitz would eventually end up back where it all started, in the Mojave Desert, face to face with his own body turning to ash, frozen in the moment that it had happened. And knowing what he has to do, he embraces his fate and rejoins the normal timeline at the point he had been thrown out of it, and after millennia of wandering, finally dies.

Personality:
First and foremost: Fitz’s time trapped in the past is something that has shaped his behaviour, given he is largely used to others not being able to see or hear him. However, being subjected to witnessing the entirety of human history both good and bad has not made him a kind or uncaring person: in fact, it’s the complete opposite. Witnessing humanity throughout highs and lows since man first emerged from the caves has made him very aware that the world would largely be a much better place if people were just a little nicer to each other. He cares for the wellbeing of others perhaps to his own detriment, willing to put himself in harm’s way for the good of others.

Connected to this is his optimism, Fitz inherently believes that humans are good at the heart of themselves, and has an optimism that you can always rely on humanity to eventually make the right decision for the good of everyone. Evil has invariably been defeated at various points in history, and this is something he believes will continue.

Fitz’s intelligence is mostly tied to his knowledge of botany, though he can pick up on most concepts given time and explanation. He’s fascinated by science and technology, but is an avid supporter of the arts and a lover of music. While his science might be a little outdated to some, he’s not above or against re-examining what he knows to be fact if presented with alternative evidence.

He isn’t without his insecurities, however, and the way people treat him with regards to his muteness has made him a little hesitant in some situations, and a little uncertain of himself as a person. Fitz worries that people think of him as lesser, or ‘slow’ because of his disability, as some in the past have been unwilling to entertain what he has to say simply because he’s not capable of saying it aloud.

Fitz’s attitude towards himself can be pretty self-deprecating, as a result, often making the joke about at least having the silent part of the strong silent type going for him before others can crack anything else at his expense. He’s found that it makes people a little more friendly towards him, and breaks down the fact that plenty in his time found it difficult to connect with him, even if he offered to use pen and paper over sign language to communicate.

Due to his time trapped in the past, Fitz has become somewhat absent-minded, and often forgets to do things to look after himself, like remembering to eat and sleep when he needs to, largely because he has spent so long not needing to do so. With 35,000 years of memories, things can be a little scattered for him and he can forget things or get them a little mixed up. Usually this is something he notices himself and quickly corrects, not wanting to mislead others, even unintentionally.

Fitz is a very honest and forthright individual, trying his best not to come across as blunt. He doesn’t keep things about himself concealed, even at the cost of it perhaps alienating others, beyond keeping things quiet for his own protection in situations where being honest might not be the most wise. He tries to keep himself tactful, whilst keeping it direct and not allowing his own feelings to be bulldozed in favour of others or for saving face. While it might be expected of him to keep things to himself due to the time period he's from, it's actually pushed him more into the thinking that he doesn't want to hide things about himself or keep secrets anymore. Not being true to himself by living honestly felt like putting on a mask every morning.

Fitz’s death has left him as someone who is much braver than he was before it. He’s seen the worst things humanity has to offer: there is nothing that he can see that he hasn’t faced already as an unwilling observer. He is not afraid to stand up for what’s right against even the most formidable of foes. When he was younger this would manifest as standing up for the staff his father hired, even if it earned him punishment, volunteering to go off and fight (even though he was medically exempt) and as he went through his millennia of solitude, it would manifest as staring down the worst things humanity's done without blinking. Fitz from after his death has nothing left to fear: he's been there, he's seen it all.
